Guy Boyling
Your Wedding Celebrant
Born and educated in Sheffield and "The North", after three years at Catering College I qualified in Hotel Management, a trade I followed for many years. I also worked in the Merchant Navy and then as Cabin Crew in the Airlines for over ten years.
Married to Jan for over 52 years, I am extremely lucky with two daughters and three grandchildren. 52 years does not entitle me to be an expert on marriage, everybody is different, but I can wear the T shirt.
With my family growing at the time, I came back to earth and went into Airline Sales and Marketing, then Business Travel Sales, and then back into Airline Sales looking after the Middle East and Indian sub-continent.
I retired from the Corporate World many years ago and have since enjoyed using my experience in working with people, of all status, nationalities, and outlooks. Travel has been my life, and I now continue to enjoy many fun occasions, with friends and families by being a part of their special day.
If you haven’t already, when choosing a date, bear in mind the time of year as you may need to include a rainy day plan. If cost is important, (when is it not?), avoid Bank Holiday weekends, (for both hotel and airline prices), and consider a midweek date, especially nowadays as it could be cheaper.
Friday can be a good day as guests may only need to take one day off work, and they also have the option to stay around all weekend and continue celebrating. Friday evening in the Summer is especially popular as the days stay bright, (for the photographer).
A "Registry Marriage" / "Civil Partnership" can take place before or after your "Wedding Celebration", days, weeks or months apart.
Having a Registry Marriage with the legal minimum of witnesses, in the UK, and then a "Wedding Celebration" abroad is also an increasingly popular practical idea.
Many couples are (were before the current pandemic) getting married abroad which can entail extra legal paperwork. They may have had a small group present, and then, on their return, celebrated with a full "Wedding Celebration" with all Family and Friends when they get back to the UK.
I have organised Wedding Celebrations over Skype and email, for couples working abroad who have got married, and planned, and conducted their "Celebration" on their return to the UK.
A recent innovation due to current Covid rules, is the "Mini Wedding Celebration", a Ceremony conducted by me as Celebrant with close family and friends after the "Registry" legal bit was completed sometimes ages ago. (A special fee can be discussed and agreed).
Before you start looking, discuss your ideas together, e.g. estimate number of guests, theme, availability of accommodation, locality. Are you planning to have your "Wedding Celebration" in the same place as your "Wedding Breakfast" - (Reception). One advantage of this is once all guests are there, they don’t have to drive to another place to continue your day, and you may not have the cost of two venues. Check however the need to "turnround" your room if applicable, and if so, where do you, and your guests, go whilst this is being done.
Visit the venue, meet the person responsible for bookings and running your day, explore options, walk "your day", and if you like it, ask if it is possible to hold the date for a period of time. You can always cancel your option if you find a more suitable option.
If you intend to hold your day in the woods, on the beach, at the local football club etc, check the local bye laws and get permission from the owner. A Marquee on the lawn is a great option, and warn the neighbours ref. car parking and a late night.
After our initial meeting, I raise a draft plan, liaise with any contributors, any additional services, e.g. Singer, Magician, (for children), Photographer, Videographer, and for the "Reception", a Toastmaster, outside Bar, Band, DJ, etc. Most importantly I liaise with the venue/site, and check in with the co-ordinator for your day.
I can show you booklets prepared by me containing examples of Prayers (yes we can have prayers and hymns), Blessings, Vows, and Readings for your use.
I have a P.A. system including Radio Microphones for our use during the ceremony, which can also be used for the background music.
You are free to contact me anytime to check and change details, and ensure all updates are communicated to all parties.
I can print a bespoke Wedding Celebration "Order of Service" for all your guests.
Dependant upon the number of guests (up to 150), and degree of artwork. Should you prefer extra embossing or special requirements, i.e. to match the existing wedding stationery, I can liaise with the designer and printer and pass on any extra costs after being approved by yourselves.
On the day, I conduct the ceremony you designed, liaising with the other contributors, provide handfasting chords, or source handmade ones to match your wedding colours.
A commemorative Wedding Ceremony Certificate, designed to be signed as a genuine one for the photographs you need.
Generally a Renewal of Vows Ceremony is very similar to a Wedding Celebration in outline, therefore the fee reflects this.
There are many reasons to consider renewing your Vows. Apart from Wedding Anniversaries, some couples like to renew their Vows after a new child arrives, or they have been married and working abroad and wish to celebrate again when they get home, or the original ceremony was restricted due to opinions at the time, etiquette, circumstances, and or budget.
The ceremony usually includes at least - Music, Readings, Vows, Rings, Contributions from friends and relatives, and can include Prayers / Hymns, plus all can have a drink in their hand throughout.

Another beautiful occasion for Relatives and Friends to enjoy, a public declaration of love and commitment.
Having met yourselves, we create a special occasion when we can all witness the commitment of parents, and those who become "Godparents".
I have created some commemorative certificates, recording the promises made by those closely involved.
Although predominantly a "non religious" ceremony in format, we can of course join in with hymns and prayers if required.
The venue opportunities are endless ranging from your house or flat to the village hall and beyond.
After our initial meeting, I raise a draft script, liaise with the venue/site, and check in with the co-ordinator for your day.
Communications throughout until you are happy with the script.
Booklet prepared by me with examples of Prayers, Poems and Card messages. (There are of course many other examples on the internet).
